Uchiwa – fan 06

Uchiwa are fans typical of the Japanese summer and matsuri (traditional festivals), characterised by their simple oval shape and non-closable design.

They are made from a single Madake bamboo cane that acts as a handle and which is fanned open at the top and then covered front and back in Japanese Washi paper.

Those offered by MARU are hand-decorated by Ishikita-san in Hiroshima prefecture using a stencil dyeing technique called Katazome.
